From the movie, “Contact”…
Spoken by two of the characters: “If there is no life on other planets… It seems like an awful waste of space.”
But it’s not a waste of space!
The vastness of the universe is an incredible visual aid!
The God of the Bible is giving us a glimpse of who we are and who He is.
How awesome is His power. How wonderful is His mercy and grace.
“When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? Psalm 8:3-4
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” Psalm 19:1
“Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?” Isaiah 40:12
The vastness of space is a very effective visual aid to those our Lord Jesus created in His image to show us objective evidence of His existence and to exhort us to be humble before Him.
